Popov Valery Sergeevich - international grandmaster

Valery Sergeevich Popov (born September 10, 1974, Leningrad) - Soviet and Russian chess player, coach.
A pupil of the Children's and Youth Sports School-2 of the Kalinin district of Leningrad. Since 1994 he has been an international master, in 1999 he received a grandmaster title.
13-time champion of St. Petersburg in various forms (rapid chess, blitz, classical chess).
In the 2001 Russian Cup final he took second place. Vice-champion of Europe in rapid chess (Warsaw, 2008).
In international tournaments: Bydgoszcz (2001) - 1st; festival "White Nights" of St. Petersburg (2001, 2008) - 1st; 42nd International Chess Festival in Biel (2009) - 2nd place.
In club competitions, among other things, he played for the teams of the North-West Academy of the Civil Service, TPS-Saransk and Lentransgaz. As part of the club Sollentuna SK became the champion of Sweden.
Coach of grandmasters Alexander Shimanov and Daniil Linchevsky. In December 2018, he won the European Rapid Chess Championship in Skopje, Macedonia.
